Their processes and research are collaboration based, often working in duo with other artists, working groups and with scientists, curators, researchers and local people.

Since 2020, they started demarcate, a collaboration with UK artist Shado Hart, their research revolves around cultural landscapes and plant migrations. They were part of residencies, performances and exhibitions in Finland, Cyprus and the UK.

They also collaborated with other artists for the performance Free To Speak with Giovanni Berganimi and Ainu Kyrönseppä, Sibelius Academy Helsinki (FI) and the intervention in response to Miia Autio, Anne Roininen and many more.

Lau Kaker (they/them), is an artist and curator from Belgium currently based and studying in Helsinki, Finland. In 2021 they graduated with a BFA from Ecole de Recherche Graphique in Brussels after doing a one year exchange at the University of Fine Arts Helsinki. They are currently studying a Master in Visual Cultures, Curating and Contemporary Art at Aalto University. Alongside their studies they also had an internship and are an active member of the Bioart Society and Maa-Tila in Helsinki.

In their projects, they have been exploring the collective and fictional meaning of home, shaped by their research on the concept of ecosophy and belonging. They are working with intersections between anthropology, interspecies relationships, queer theories and artistic practices. Lau’s practice is collaboration based, thinking about the before and afterlife of the artwork using recycling processes. Their processes are based around techniques such as making paper, making natural dyes and pigments, organic photography, writing and weaving. They are integrating through stories and materials, inter-species relationships and more-than-human voices. At the same time, Lau is researching representation and creation processes that are more inclusive and less harmful to the environment.

In 2023 and 2024, they have been collaborating with Jahnavee Baruah for their Master Thesis Research at Aalto University in Helsinki, Finland. They also worked with different communities of farmers, spinners and craftmakers, as well as more-than-humans: sheep, fungi and bacterias.

During their Master in Visual Cultures, Curating and Contemporary Art at Aalto University (FI), they have been collaborating with artists, organisations and curators in various projects.

Since 2019, they have been collaborating with the belgian artist Anna Mathot, working on performances, videos, paintings and exhibitions. Together they have been part of Delta Residency (BE) and Réinventer son monde Festival (FR).
