Lau Kaker (they/them), is an artist and curator from Belgium based in Helsinki, Finland. In 2021, they graduated with a BFA from Ecole de Recherche Graphique in Brussels after doing a one year exchange at the University of Fine Arts Helsinki. In 2024, they graduated with an MA in Visual Cultures, Curating and Contemporary Art, with a Textile Minor at Aalto University (FI). Alongside their studies they also had internships and worked with the Bioart Society, Maa-Tila, Aalto University and Art For All in Helsinki and BioClub Tokyo.

Their projects are in conversation with specific communities and explore more-than-human stories. They have been researching the concept of belonging through stories, textiles, performances, analog film and sound. Lau works collectively with intersections between biology, anthropology, interspecies relationships and artistic practices. At the same time, Lau is researching representation and creation processes that are more inclusive and less harmful to the environment.

Their processes and research are collaboration based, often working in duo or working groups with artists, scientists, curators, researchers, as well as more-than-humans communities (sheep, fungi, bacterias and rivers). Growing from those collaborations, Lau participated in residencies and exhibitions in Finland, Japan, Belgium, Cyprus and the UK.

In 2023 and 2024, they have been collaborating with Jahnavee Baruah for their Master Thesis Research at Aalto University in Helsinki, Finland. They also worked with different communities of farmers, spinners and craftmakers, as well as more-than-humans: sheep, fungi and bacterias.

During their Master in Visual Cultures, Curating and Contemporary Art at Aalto University (FI), they have been collaborating with artists, organisations and curators in various projects.
