OMA TAIDETALO (FI)
July-August 2021
During the Oma Taidetalo Residency, Lau was working on the Mattolaituri installation for the Photography Exhibition and the Paper Tear collaborative audiovisual performance. Their research revolved around site-specific materials, the rag rug tradition, organic photography and the themes of everyday life in Simpele. The installation Mattolaituri aims to merge with the space and was thought after helping build the exhibition space. Mattolaituri is an installation with anthotypes changing along the exhibition reacting to the sunlight, pounding on fabric, curtain hangers and prints. The prints have been developed using coffee, berries from the garden, vitamin C and washing soda. All the components for development could go back to the garden. The images were taken on film and printed on fibre and old second-hand plastic-based papers. The pictures have been taken from the area of the village and the rug cleaning places of Simpele, Finland.
Paper Tear revolves around paper production in Simpele, reflecting on the human centered use of ressources, following the cicle of water.
During their time at the Residency, Lau organised workshops with young adults and teenagers. Documentation of the workshop organised on Anthotypes and Amplified Typerwriter performance with Xenia Ramm & Cosmo Großbach can be found at: https://www.instagram.com/oma.taidetalo/
